SCRIPTURES AND SAINTS

Adi Granth:     The scriptures held sacred by Sikhs,compiled by guru Arjan at the end of sixteenth century.It includes the writing of Guru Nanak and five of the nine Gurus who succedded him ,as well as saints who lived between the twelfth and seventeenth century.The common thread throughout the Adi Granth is the importance of the word Name and the nedd for a perfect Master on the spritiual path .


Bible:      The sacred scriptures of judaism and Christianity ,written over the period of c.100AD,consisting of the old and New Testaments .Only the old Testament is recognized by judaism .The Roman Catholic Bible also contains the books of the Apocrypha,which are absent from the Protestant Bible and not included in the Hebrew canon .


Bu Ali Shah Qalander:  (1202-1324) Hazrat Bu Ali Shah Qalander was born in Iraq.He and his family later settled in Panipat, India .Ascholar in the worldly knowladge for forty years, he eventually turned toward spritiual matters and beacome a great Sufi Master.He wrote mysticial poetry in Percian nd Punjabi.


Dadu:--(1544-1603) Dadu Sahib or Dadu Dayal , a saint of Rajasthan , was well known for his boldness in defying the orthodox priests and teaching the path of the Word or Naam. He was born in Ahedabad in Gujrat , and  thaught chiefly in Jaipur and other centres in Rajasthan.




Guru Amar Das :--(1479-1574):- The third Sikh Guru ,who became a disciple of Guru Anged in his sixties. He served him with single-minded devotion and in 1552 Guru Angad appointed him as his successor. The Adi Granth contains 907 of his hymns.




Guru Nanak(1479-1539):--The fifith sixth guru , who collected,classified and compiled the Adi Granth , including the writings of many saints to emphasize the universality of their basic spritiual teachings on the one God, The Word and role of Perfect Master.


Guru Tegh Bahadur (1621-1675):-- The ninth Sikh Guru. His writings are included iin the Adi Granth . His son was Guru Gobind Singh , the tenth Guru of the Sikhs.
